Two States Wedding

One wedding that instantly comes to my mind whenever someone mentions the Two States movie is that of Shruti and Ankit. Their interstate marriage perfectly blended two diverse cultures in a celebration that lasted four days, filled with traditional ceremonies from both Tamil and Gujarati backgrounds.

Sangeet Ceremony in the Open Lawns

Their festivities began with a vibrant Sangeet function set in an open lawn, which featured enthralling performances that captivated all guests. The photographs from the Sangeet do a fantastic job of capturing the joy and excitement of the evening. Shruti wore a kurta styled lehenga designed by her friend Namrata, a fashion designer, while Ankit complimented her in a traditional sherwani.

Tamil Brahmin Wedding and Gujarati Rituals

The wedding day started early in the morning with Shruti beginning her preparations at 6 am, while the baraat procession from Ankit’s home started at 6:30 am, reaching the venue, Vithal Rukhumai Mandir in Dahisar, by 7:30 am. This modern multi-story temple, though not adorned with ancient granite pillars, provided a splendid setting for their rituals.

Shruti and Ankit honored their heritage by incorporating both Tamil Brahmin and Gujarati wedding traditions. For the Tamil ceremony, Shruti wore a pure silk Kanjivaram saree, adorned with a stern gold Kamarbandh and a multi-strand gold maathapatti. Ankit matched her in traditional South Indian attire, wearing a white dhoti and angavastram. Their wedding included the “Oonjal” ceremony, symbolizing the balance needed in marriage, where the couple sat on a swing that was gently rocked.

One of the most poignant rituals was the Kannika Dhanam, a moving South Indian wedding tradition where the bride’s father officially gives away his daughter to the groom. We took great care to capture each emotional moment with our cameras, overcoming the venue’s challenging lighting by strategically placing cinema lights to create a warm tone for each photograph.
