Tamil wedding at Ganjam Mandapam, Bangalore

Tamil wedding at Ganjam Mandapam, Bangalore

Tamil wedding at Ganjam Mandapam, Bangalore

They rightly say there is beauty in simplicity and we should never overlook the power of simplicity. We literally understood this when we reached this particular wedding venue in Bangalore last month. “Ganjam Mantapa”, located in heart of Basavanagudi is a huge medieval house converted to a charming and intimate mantapa by the renowned architect Renu Mistry. The typical south indian setting, the old world charm and the elegance of the place took our attention completely the moment we stepped in. The key highlights of the venue is in the details, including the beautiful ponds outside the venue decorated with rose and marigold, the spiral staircase for the bride to walk down to the mantap, the traditional Kolam around the doors of the main mantap and the walls painted with mango leaves and the traditional slopping roof.

When you see the pictures, you will see some incredible shots of the finest minute details – the golden necklace on the shiv lingam, the bride’s jhumkas playing in the lights, the divine necklace on the wooden sculpture. But the essence of the photography remained the precious and simple moments captured in a documentary style – no distraction, just pure bliss of the photographs in its native form.

The Bride and the Groom, Shruti and Akhil, (both BITS Goa Alumni) fell in love over multiple lunches, movies, zillion bike rides and many peaceful park walks, while they worked together in  Amazon.

They wanted to deviate from the concrete mantapam wedding, and so very thoughtfully chose the venue considering the peace and calmness surrounding it. To brew some more “South-Indianess”, it is very interesting to note that the bride’s dad is telegu, her mom is tamil and her groom is mallu. The South Indian states’ diverse fusion is the main essence of this wedding, which is clearly reflected in the photographs.

The bridal wear consisted of pretty and flair display of Kanjeevarams consisting of yellows, blues, oranges and pink. The golden accessories paired with the variety of colourful kanjeevarams lit up the bride’s face, as she personified elegance in every frame. On the wedding day, Shruti wore the nine-yard Kanjeevaram silk saree (Madisaree) in shades of yellow and green border. A very integral part of the bridal jewellery was the typical temple jewellery and amazing golden necklaces and ear-rings which were designed out of temple art. Also, what caught the eye were the beautifully done little flower garlands wrapped around the hair, making a long braid. The expressive Groom, on the other hand wore the traditional attire and matched his bride’s exuberance in every frame. The two day festivities included, Naandi (invocation of ancestors), Varpooja, Malaai Matra ( Varmala exchange ) Nichyathartham ( Engagement ceremony ), Kashi Yatra, Oonjal and finally the Tamil-Telugu mixed style wedding followed by Satyanarayan Puja on the last day. Not forgetting to mention, the couple shoots of the fun loving couple turned out to be amazing, as they were thrilled to explore the different facets of the gorgeous venue. Now let the photos enthrall you ! Do give us your feedback and comments, likes and shares!

South Indian Wedding at Temple Tree Leisure, Bangalore

South Indian Wedding at Temple Tree Leisure, Bangalore

South Indian Wedding at Temple Tree Leisure, Bangalore

2017 has been most generous to us, where we met and captured some of the most amazing people, and Krishna & Akanksha happened to be right up there. Krishna who happens to be my batchmate from BITS Pilani is an easy going and chilled out person who fell for Akanksha’s charm, while working together in the office. Despite their contrasting personalities, they mingle like salt in water. So when the bride and groom have such amazing chemistry and understanding we are also at our best and we are happy it all showed in the photographs.

Akanksha and Krishna did the whole wedding planning by themselves and chose TempleTree Leisure in Bangalore as the venue for their wedding. TempleTree is one of the finest venue in Bangalore alongside The Tamarind Tree and Ganjam Mandap. We have shot Shruti-Akhil’s and Swati-Yash’s wedding at Ganjam Mantapa earlier. Particularly outstanding is the floral decoration done at the property on the morning of the wedding. The wedding celebration kicked off with EduruKolu where both the sides tried coaxing the other to step forward and meet at a common point. This was followed with a sparkling display of cold-pyro behind which they exchanged rings. Soon after as the crowd settled down the dance performances by the family set the stage on fire. But the highlight remained the solo and duet performances of Akanksha and Krishna with the crowd cheering their lungs out. Krishna had to re-perform on popular demand. People kept partying and dancing till everyone called it a night.

The wedding started early with Kashi Yatra. The groom was dressed in the traditional White Dhoti and bride looked pretty in a green Kancheevaram. The entire venue was decorated with lines of marigold and Diyas which created a surreal traditional look. Throughout the wedding Krishna and Akanksha kept enjoying themselves and that was the best aspect of the whole wedding. Shooting the wedding in the daylight at peak afternoon was a difficult task, we wish the sun was a little easier on us. Nevertheless, we loved the photographs and we leave you with them for your feedback.

Let’s peep into Akanksha and Krishna’s wedding directly and then follow it up with their first day 🙂

P.S. : Watch out for the moment when Akanksha’s peeps to have a look at Krishna’s Kashi Yatra.

Telugu Hyderabad wedding

Telugu Hyderabad wedding

Telugu Hyderabad wedding

It is not everyday that your best friend ties the knot. Aditya and I have been inseparable friends since school times. So when you receive the news of your best friend getting married it brings many thoughts, it makes you nostalgic of all the good times spend together and how time flew that your friend is about to reach an important milestone in life.

So, Aditya was all set to marry the tall and pretty Sahiti. Aditya, an IIT Kharagpur alumni who is currently finishing his PhD, first met Sahiti, who was pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Health, in their college University of Minessota in US. I first came to know about Sahiti when he was planning to propose her. Subsequently we came to know that Sahiti loved our work and our documentary approach to wedding rituals and ceremonies along with blending couple portraiture and capturing fine details. I personally wanted to enjoy Adi’s wedding and not shoot it, but as both of them were keen on us shooting the wedding, we found ourselves travelling to Hyderabad in a train along with Adi’s family.

The whole family was quite exhilarated about the wedding. On reaching Hyderabad, we set out earlier for the venue Noma Kalyana Vedika while the groom’s party left later from the station after changing clothes at the railway station. We reached earlier so that we could set up our equipment and be prepared to capture the Groom’s side being welcome by the bride’s side. Typical of Telugu weddings there were a lot of pujas and as soon as every one settled down the puja started shortly. The key opening function was Kashi Yatra where the groom sets on a symbolic journey to Kashi to continue with his Brahminism while bride’s parents convince him to enjoy the bliss of married life.  The important functions from the wedding happened like this –

Edurukolu: This is a fun filled event where the groom’s entourage is welcomed into the mandapam by the bride’s family and friends amidst traditional music played on the Nadaswaram

Jeelakarra Bellam: Amidst the chanting of sacred vedic hymns the bride and groom place a freshly ground paste of cumin and jaggery on each other’s head to signify their eternal bond

Talambralu: The bride and groom shower each other with Talambralu which is a mixture of rice with saffron and turmeric. This signifies the joyful beginning of a happy and prosperous life together

Saptapadi: The bride and groom take seven steps Saptapadi together and with each step they recite one vow. This symbolizes the beginning of their journey through life as partners.

As the muharatam was at 3.30 am in the night by the time the wedding got over it was already morning. After the wedding even though Aditya and Sahiti were completely exhausted they happily shot a lot of fun photographs together. This is one of our finest work in terms of documentary coverage of a wedding and its partially because of the support and love we got from Aditya and Sahiti’s family. We hope you could see the whole story of their wedding unfold through the photos.

Wedding Couture:  As I often get messages from men and women who are interested to know where to shop for wedding clothes, here is where Aditya and Sahiti got their clothes from. As the bride and groom didn’t have much time they did their wedding shopping in Mumbai and Hyderabad respectively. Aditya headed to Santacruz in Mumbai which is the best place to shop for wedding clothes in Mumbai. Having explored most places in Mumbai myself for wedding clothes I would say this is the best place for guys to buy some decent and classy clothes – Manyavar, Jinam, Kora offer amazing collection for Men. Also a lot of designers have their outlets here, so a visit here is must.
